
There was a time when attorney John Carnes was one of the most fearsome political operatives in all of the Kansas City metro . . . Today there's a very real chance that he might be spending his golden years in the federal pokey.
Not sure if there's a lesson here about spending too much time in the local political scene . . . Oftentimes, it seems like a career in fast food has typically better outcomes than participating in local elections. But the reality is: NOBODY knows when it's time to pack it up.
And so we merely serve to document one of the closing chapter's in this dude's career . . . Check-it:
John C. Carnes, 70, pleaded guilty on Nov. 25, 2024, to evading the payment of $794,540 in income taxes, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Jeffrey P. Ray.
Carnes was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison on Monday by U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs. He was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $794,540.
