
Actually, it would be more honest to admit that homelessness and drug-use have increased the level of car crash tragedy on local streets.
Nevertheless . . .
Today we wanted to share a conclusion that's really about more fundraising and sketchy bids for contracts.
Michael Kelley, policy director at BikeWalk KC, said pedestrian crash deaths are up because of the lack of investment in KC roads.
"We have a built-in environment that is dangerous by design. So many of our streets are not built with pedestrians, cyclists, and people with disabilities in mind. and we're unfortunately seeing the natural response of that in these number of crashes, along with a lack of investment in things like driver's education," Kelley said.
Bigger cars and distracted drivers also add to the high number of deaths, but Kelley said focusing on our roads is key.
