The City of Kansas City announced on Monday, June 2, that a new initiative to help residents build generational wealth and achieve financial stability has been given the green light and funds to do so.

“The initiative will help Kansas City develop data-driven policies that address financial barriers, particularly those affecting our Black communities,” said Mayor Quinton Lucas. “By gathering community insights and removing historical obstacles to wealth creation, we’re committed to building a more financially equitable Kansas City where all residents have pathways to economic empowerment and generational wealth-building.”

City leaders said they would work with local partners and community members to create a policy plan focused on affordable banking, credit building, financial education and other tools that promote long-term stability.
