KCMO Mayor Q Shares Outrage Over Teen Gun Violence Data Debate

This bit of back & forth might be overstated if only because we really doubt anybody read the BORING initial screed . . . Check-it: 

Guns are indeed the leading cause of death for young people. I and most decent people don’t think young people should exclude Black young people even if not “your kids.”

More troubling, however, is the new anti-DEI era view on race bubbling in this piece and beyond it. Race does not and cannot matter when addressing historical wrongs, but does matter when seeing what health issues (don’t) matter; what problems aren’t really serious for “all.”

I’ve spent time with families of gun violence victims of different racial groups. All are a tragedy. All were avoidable. And all should warrant our focus for it never happening again.  The author could stand to meet them this Gun Violence Awareness Week.

Mayor Q: "Rare is the piece that so clearly says “I don’t care about you or your community,” than this one claiming that the focus on teenage gun violence deaths is overblown and based on fundraising and political goals since most of the victims are Black—and not “your kids.” What the hell?"
