Kansas City Overnight Mass Shooting On Prospect Kills Woman

Again, it's important to define terms . . .

Here's what AI has to tell us about the term "mass shooting" and how it's applied to the local discourse:

"A mass shooting is generally defined as an event where four or more people are shot, whether killed or injured, in a single incident. This definition is widely used by organizations like the Gun Violence Archive, Rockefeller Institute of Government, and many news outlets."

And so, it's reasonable to use this terminology without much hyperbole . . .

Moreover . . .

Unofficially, this marks the 71st homicide so far in KCMO as local numbers outpace last year's pace and negate claims of "progress" by politicos & appointed officials.

And so . . .

Here's the first report and a news link with more to follow later in the day . . .

Homicide 35th and Prospect

This morning, just after 1:30 AM, patrol officers were dispatched to 35th and Prospect on a reported shooting.

When officers arrived they were directed to the gas station parking lot. They located multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.  Officers began performing live saving measures and ordered EMS to the scene.

On scene officers located a total of four victims. An adult female victim had critical injuries, one adult male victim had critical injuries, and two adult male victims had non life threatening injuries. All of the victims were transported to local hospitals. The adult female victim was pronounced deceased a short time later by medical personnel.

Additional officers responded to a separate shooting, a short distance away, in the 2000 block of East Linwood where an adult male victim was located. It was determined the victim was related to the scene at 35th and Prospect. He was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.

This is being investigated as a homicide and there is no one in custody at this point. Detectives are trying to determine what led up to the shots being fired and the victims being struck. Investigators are canvassing the scene for witnesses and surveillance footage. Crime scene personnel are processing the scene for all available physical evidence.

If anyone has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
