Kansas City 2025 Homicide #67: Deadly Gunfire Erupts Near 25th & Wabash

Tonight the weekend concludes with more gunfire and what could be close to a 20% spike in deadly violence this year compared to last year at this time . . . Here's the word: 

 Homicide 2900 block of Wabash

This evening, just before 8:30 PM, patrol officers responded to the 2900 block of Wabash on a reported shooting.

When they arrived they were directed to a residence on Wabash. Officers located an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. KCFD EMS responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

This is being investigated as a homicide and no one is in custody at this point. Preliminary information revealed there was an altercation outside of a residence between multiple individuals that led to shots being fired and the victim being struck. Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage. Crime scene personnel are processing the scene for physical evidence.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
