First and foremost . . .
THANKS TO JACKSON COUNTY ASSESSOR CANDIDATE PRESTON SMITH FOR PUTTING THIS VITAL INFORMATION ON BLAST!!!
Real talk . . .
Mr. Smith has been exceptionally generous by sharing this information with his followers and, even better, helping us to understand it.
Here's a link to his EXTENSIVE work and a passage that best describes this info about how local government places an EXTRAORDINARY tax burden on residents . . .
"In 2025, the parcels in Jackson County have a market value, assigned by the Assessor, of $8,045,695,969 (That is $8B.) HIGHER than in 2024. 90% of this increase came from the increase in commercial assessments, at $7.1B, or 30.6% higher than in 2023. Agriculture parcels went down in value by 25%. And residential parcels county-wide increased only 1.6%.
"If no one appealed and if the 2025 tax levies were the same as they were in 2024, the County would take in an extra $141,259,773 MORE THAN IN 2024. (That is $141M.)
"That is a lot of money, and nearly all of it is on the backs of small businesses in this County."
