Spectrum Posts $25K Bounty For Info On Internets Attacks

Tech perspective following our friends spending a great deal of time offline tonight . . .

Spectrum announced on Saturday evening, May 17, that outages across the Kansas City metro have been attributed to severed fibers. A primary network fiber was cut during a criminal act of vandalism, while another third-party fiber, which normally would provide backup and allow services to remain functional, was also slashed.

“Our teams are working diligently to make necessary repairs and get customers back online as quickly as possible. In addition, our network engineers are working to identify possible rerouting solutions to expedite restoration,” a company spokesperson said.

Spectrum has offered up to a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for the “deliberate and ongoing damaging attacks” to the network’s fiber optic infrastructure.
