In Missouri there hasn't been much criticism of Senator Hawley because most locals are keenly aware of the devastation that this move will cost local residents . . . The reality is that for anybody with a grandma or any contact with the American healthcare hot mess . . . This isn't a partisan issue.
However . . .
This passage from the WSJ provides an excellent glimpse of the Beltway conversation . . . Check-it:
The 2028 GOP primary is already in view as a younger generation of Republicans jockey for Trump voters. Based on the left-wing positions Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley is taking, he might be better off running as a Democrat.
Mr. Hawley, 45, is deceptively marketing himself as a tribune of the working class, notwithstanding his prep school education and degrees from Stanford and Yale Law School. To elevate his profile, he’s parroting Democratic talking points about Republicans and the tax bill they are trying to pass, sabotaging a Trump administration priority.
Last week he wrote an op-ed in the New York Times denouncing “a noisy contingent of corporatist Republicans—call it the party’s Wall Street wing,” who want to slash “health insurance for the working poor.” “If Republicans want to be a working-class party—if we want to be a majority party—we must ignore calls to cut Medicaid,” he wrote.
