And that's a good thing.
In fact, most local Latino leaders don't have any connection at all to Mr. Vasquez and that kinda proves that at least "community pressure" didn't help to win his job . . . The reality, he's a favorite of Mayor Q and proved to be an effective way to outsmart his East side colleagues given so-much racially-charged avarice over this jorb.
And so . . .
Mr. Vasquez doesn't have much involvement in local Latino organization.
No connection to local Latino groups.
And no obvious link to the bigger Westside, Northeast or even KCK clans.
This will make his job easier . . . But also proves that so many politicos & newsies bragging about his "identity" don't really know much about how Latino politics works in KCMO.
Accordingly . . .
Check public radio offering racially charged high praise . . .
Vasquez has spent the last 28 years working with the city — including a stint as assistant city manager — and is also the first Latino to hold the job. Vasquez told KCUR's Up To Date that says he has focused on economic development, planning and projects throughout much of his career.
"My track record is one of accomplishment, just working hard, solving different difficult problems (for the city)," he said.
