Today's celebration of cinema and local history . . .
This morning we share a preview of the party hosted by the library and enjoyed by activists who have already seen this admittedly pretty great flick more than a dozen times . . .
More importantly . . .
American politics have shifting dramatically from the time of this movie's release in 1992. The "discourse" has become much more divisive and this movie likely wouldn't get the same kind of effusive praise that it earned more than 30 years ago . . . At the very least, there would have to be some kind of video game tie-in or super hero cameo to even make marketing this kind of movie possible . . .
And so . . . We celebrate the distant past and the forgotten time when people actually read books at the library . . . Check-it:
"May 19, 2025, marks the 100th birthday of Civil Rights leader Malcolm X. In honor of his historic contributions to American history and the global fight for justice, the Southeast Branch invites you to a special presentation of the acclaimed film Malcolm X."
