Kit Bond Kaput: Kansas City Remembers Missouri Statesman

We invite locals to share their memories of a former Show-Me State power player who recently passed.

Here's what we liked about the stalwart politico . . . The conservative Senator never gave into being an ideologue at the outset of our current era when culture war and branding prove far more important than crafting policy.

Even better . . .

Kit Bond was famous for bringing home tons of PORK to Missouri and, especially, the Kansas City area.

More than any other Midwest politico, Kit Bond understood the Beltway political game and how to not only wield influence but also utilize votes, power and posturing in order to direct precious federal funds back to his home state . . . More than any other elected official in the modern era, Kit Bond brought TONS of cash back home and his skill in this regard deserves RESPECT given so many other politicos who mistakenly, foolishly, naively think their words are more important than money.

Again, we'd like to hear any other observations as we share some more official reports . . .

Christopher S. “Kit” Bond has died.

The long-time Republican politician died Tuesday in St. Louis at age 86 – no cause of death has been released yet.

Bond was first elected State Auditor in 1970, then two years later he was elected governor of Missouri. He lost a re-election bid in 1976 but was elected governor again in 1980. In 1986 he was elected to the U.S. Senate and re-elected three more times by Missouri voters before choosing not to run again in 2010.
