Remember that we talked about this last week . . .
Sorry . . . But here are two truism:
Nope, the Royals aren't staying at the K no matter what "study" that locals pull from any given orifice.
And then . . .
In this economy, chasing biz out of city limits is DUMB and tax fighters are putting too much faith in rigged numbers from think tanks rather than looking at the big picture. Our evidence: There is no financial equation showing that an empty stadium with no replacement will help the local economy and anyone claiming as much is LYING.
In the meantime, we don't mind entertaining fantasies about keeping the K if only because it's comforting to notice that other locals also have a problem dealing with change . . . Check-it:
"Yes, an expiring lease makes it easier for a team to threaten to leave town, but it then has to have somewhere to leave town for; if the only option is “if you don’t build us a new stadium we’ll go play in the street” that’s not much of a threat. Government officials need to learn that they have leverage, too: There may be a limited number of pro sports teams to go around, but there are also a limited number of major metro areas, so team owners need cities as much as or more than cities need teams."
