Kansas City Loves Newsie Carolyn Long

This kind of nice news really isn't our style but it offers an opportunity to mention and important trend.

As more longtime local TV journalists call it quit we should notice that the era of deep connection with Kansas City audiences is becoming a legacy of the past. 

Online content mills and now the worsening digital dreck of online news has made news more disposable and there are few names/faces that stand out to readers. 

Go even deeper and realize that tech and housing have made families and workers more mobile: People don't stay in the place that long anymore and those generational connections to local places are also quickly evaporating as workers are increasingly forced to travel in order to chase better salaries. 

And so . . .

This tribute is well deserved as we respect any career spend covering this cowtown . . . 

After a distinguished 30-year TV news career at KCTV5, Carolyn Long is signing off later this week. Over the years, Long has—at one time or another—anchored every newscast time slot on the station.

The Ohio native tells us she was raised in the Buckeye state and after stints in both Ohio and Connecticut, she found her home in Kansas City. Through the decades, Long has become known for her warmth and credibility. “I have a deep connection to the KC community,” she says.
