Kansas City Faith Blogger Considers 'Culturally Competent' Congregations

Today's digital life lesson is worth considering and MIGHT not require partisan outrage that risks losing the message of faith-based communities altogether.

"Newcomers who are either new to the faith or who have come from congregations much more culturally and racially diverse may not last long if they feel like outsiders. And one way they're made to feel like outsiders is that the insiders are not what scholars now call "culturally competent."

"Which is to say that people like me may not understand more lively, even rambunctious worship styles. Or may not grasp what people from a Global South culture want and need in a worshiping community that is different from what people with white European roots have wanted and needed."
