Today we share testimony sent to TKC that not only confirms a truism BUT ALSO offers a bit of a reality check for local drivers.
The basics . . .
RECENT KANSAS CITY CAR CRASH VICTIMS LONG FOR POLICE RESPONSE!!!
According to social media chatter and most of your friends & neighbors, this word is all to common:
"Hey TKC, just wanted to share this complaint that your readers should know about . . . I guess even some of the more serious car crashes aren't getting any response from police. I was sideswiped by a Hispanic male on the West Bottoms this week and my car was totaled. In fact, the hit & run driver damaged a few cars and then sped way even when we yelled at him that we had his license number.
"Of course we called 911 and told an officer was on the way. After an hour waiting nobody arrived. We were then told to file a report online but the form demands a walk-in for something like a hit & run. This happened at night and a group of women from my exercise class were waiting after dark for police to arrive but we never got any help. The experience definitely has me rethinking my choice to visit KCMO regularly when even a serious hit & run doesn't merit attention from authorities . . ."
Behind the scenes www.TonysKansasCity.com reached out to a friend at KCPD and the response attempts to share some perspective . . .
"If nobody was hurt and there is no immediate threat of physical danger, that response priority gets moved down. That's just reality. On any given night KCPD responds to shootings, domestic violence and armed robbery . . . Our first mission is to keep people safe; so yeah . . . Car crash reports might have to be walked in or by using the online form at the KCPD website . . . Sorry to hear about this lady's trouble but it sounds like the women did the right thing and have the correct info to help their case . . . That will benefit all of the victims in the future and investigators WILL follow-up on something like a hit & run. This experience might be 'different' for people from suburban areas but I think she will find that KCPD is just as quick as anyone when it comes to getting info back to her."
