Here's the first report about the latest local killing and what (unofficially) an 18% spike in local homicides YTD . . .
Homicide 5500 block of Troost
This evening just after 9:30 PM officers were dispatched to the 5500 block of Troost Avenue on a reported shooting.
When officers arrived on scene, they immediately became to canvassing the area for victims. The responding officers determined the shooting occurred in the parking lot of a nearby business. Three victims had been transported by private conveyance to a local hospital suffering from gunshot trauma believed to be related to this incident. One adult male and one adult female victim are both suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot injuries. An additional adult male victim, who was also transported by private vehicle. responded to the hospital suffering from gunshot wounds and was unresponsive. That male victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Preliminary investigation indicates that an interaction took place between an adult male suspect and an adult male victim in the parking lot of a nearby business. That interaction escalated to gunfire and subsequently resulted in three individuals being struck. The suspect left the area on foot in an unknown direction. We do not currently have anyone in police custody.
Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the area and began gathering any evidence and collecting witness statements. This incident is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
