Every real estate scheme in Kansas City history has always been accompanied by irrational hype intended to distract from the reality of the situation.

The plan is an open secret that local media don't want to highlight. Meanwhile, Mayor Q has been forthright about his efforts to bring "income diversity" to the plaza for years.

One more bold text statement so we can be perfectly clear about what's happening . . .
PLAZA PLANS NOW QUICKLY MOVE TOWARD THE SAME KIND OF PUBLIC/PRIVATE HOT MESS THAT DOOMED THE PROSPECT SUNFRESH!!!
Forgive our cynicism . . . At the very least there's more than a few fun drawings for the plebs to enjoy . . .

And, as always, in fairness, we share a more optimistic outlook at the local cover story . . .
"SomeraRoad Inc., the developer behind Kansas City’s massive West Bottoms redevelopment, has submitted a $239.5 million proposal to transform the Plaza Tennis Center into a mixed-use high-rise project. The plan includes 260–300 apartments (with affordable units), up to 100 condominiums, 8,000 square feet of retail, parking, public green spaces, and a pocket park—all designed to complement the Plaza’s historic architecture. SomeraRoad’s proposal involves a 99-year ground lease (not an outright purchase) and estimates generating up to $762 million for the city over nearly a century. While the plan has not yet been selected, the leak of the developer’s submission offers an early look into one of Kansas City’s most closely watched and controversial potential redevelopments."
