Probably not.
In fact . . .
We notice that the announcement of an old school dude sentencing didn't seem to convince locals about crime progress this week.
Accordingly . . .
We share two sides of the debate before asking readers to weigh in . . . Check-0it:
"I'm happy to hear anybody that is doing these things is finally getting held accountable for it," he said.
Shatto said he wants to see more proactive measures — including an increased police presence in River Market — from the city heading into the summer. He said the landlord he rents from has invested money in security measures.
"My hope is that that balance continues to be evolving and the police department can have more of a presence in the River Market, and we don't have to spend private money to do that," he said.
In fairness . . . Here's the perspective from Mayor Q:
"Last year, there was extensive discussion about break-ins affecting Betty Rae's Ice Cream and other River Market businesses . . . Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson obtained a seven-year sentence following the arrest, prosecution, and conviction of the offender.
"My thanks to strong work from all involved in the effort, including KCPD, Ms. Johnson, who worked on safety initiatives for small businesses in her prior role in the Mayor’s office and is seeing strong results in only a few months as our prosecutor, and all committed to a safer community. Thank you to business folks like Matt Shatto for their advocacy."
