TKC Breaking News: Beto Lopez Launches Bid For Lee's Summit Mayor

Right now we're FIRST to deliver word of an inspiring metro power play with more than a bit of backstory.

We'll make it quick but www.TonysKansasCity.com is required to share context with readers . . .

First & foremost, we give credit to Mr. Lopez for this bold move only little more than a year after his sister was gunned down during the mass shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Rally of 2024.

Of course TKC respects Mr. Lopez but we have to acknowledge that a hostile takeover at Guadalupe Center has CONTINUED to generate some rough feelings in the local Latino community . . . In fairness, as time goes by we think more locals blame CiCi for the flex and realize that Beto's leadership has been admirable under tough circumstances that only got worse on his end.

Simply based on qualifications as a suburban council leader . . . We've heard that Mr. Lopez is skilled and his citywide profile might be a selling point for voters . . . But, ultimately, that's for the electorate in Lee's Summit to decide.

Now here's the message FIRST on TKC . . .

Beto Lopez Announces Bid for Lee’s Summit Mayor

Councilmember Beto Lopez to Kick O Mayoral Campaign at Community Event

Lee’s Summit City Councilmember Beto Lopez formally announces his intention to become the next Mayor of Lee’s Summit.  Friends, family, and community members will gather on Wednesday night to celebrate the announcement.

“I love Lee’s Summit, and I’m proud of what we have achieved as a community over the last few years,” said Lopez. “When I first campaigned to join the city council, residents wanted to see more collaboration and forward thinking at City Hall. I worked with my colleagues to build consensus, and as our next Mayor, I will use that experience to continue to move our city and community forward.”

Lopez believes that his leadership role as Mayor Pro Tempore for the last seven years, his tenure on the council, his professional background in commercial development and banking, his community and civic involvement and his experience in executive and nonprofit management demonstrate his ability to be a responsive, forward-thinking mayor for the City of Lee’s Summit.

Beto Lopez is the President & CEO of Guadalupe Centers, one of the largest nonprofits in the Midwest. His career spans over 30 years in commercial real estate, development and banking and includes executive leadership in both the private and nonprofit sectors. Elected to City Council in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, Beto has prioritized public safety, strategic growth, infrastructure, and regional collaboration. As Mayor Pro Tem, he represents Lee’s Summit on the Mid-America Regional Council, where he also serves as First Vice Chair.  He sits on numerous boards that impact the region and Lee’s Summit including the Executive Board of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, the St. Luke’s East-Lee’s Summit Hospital Board, the Kansas City Police Foundation, and the KC Common Good Board, among many others. He is also involved in the Lee’s Summit Rotary and Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce and is a graduate of the Leadership Lee’s Summit Program.  Beto and his wife Venessa have raised three daughters in Lee’s Summit where they have resided for 30 years. Beto is committed to building a stronger, more interconnected and community-focused future for all Lee’s Summit residents.
