Kansas City Medical Director Demands 'Zero Tolerance' Against EMS Attacks

Dr. Erica Carney, who is also Missouri's EMS medical director, says attacks like it on health professionals are all too common.

"I have been in inner-city emergency medicine and EMS for close to 20 years now and our safety is always a question whenever we go to work unfortunately," Carney, a University Health ER doctor said.

Most health professionals she knows that have been in the medical field for long have been assaulted. One of the more dangerous places to be, can be in the back of an ambulance.

"Sometimes you have the police with you to help do that pat down to ride with you to help keep you safe in the back of the ambulance, sometimes you don't have that," Carney said.
