Resolved: Massive Cut To Kansas City Bus System MUST Include Killing Zero Fare

Our main contention . . .

It's just immoral sacrifice jobs and routes in order to keep a bad idea that doesn't work. Adding a revenue stream of paying customers SHOULD BE and obvious choice.

That's our low-key take that will be downplayed and mostly unquestioned by locals.

Meanwhile . . .

We talked about this story over the weekend and now here's the MSM version of the drama ahead of a public shouting session today and more planned protests . . .

To maintain the current status quo for its Kansas City operations — which already includes long wait times and the fewest bus routes the agency’s had in decades — the KCATA needs about $117 million. The city plans to give the agency $71 million in its 2025-2026 budget.

Without any more funding, KCATA will cut 13 of its 29 routes in Kansas City, Missouri. Those cuts would affect more than 6,500 people, about 18% of the city’s total weekday ridership.

According to documents obtained by KCUR, the agency plans to cut nearly half of its routes, drastically reduce weekend service and pare down its operating hours. It will also lay off about 171 workers.
