Kansas City Gunman Convicted After Westport Super Bowl Party Gunfire

This story is important for a couple of reasons . . .

It's a reminder that locals shouldn't get too carried away with their Super Bowl celebrations.

It's an encouraging sign of progress during the tenure of the new prosecutor even if most of the proceedings occurred under the watch of her predecessor . . .

Either way . . . Here's background on the spate of bullets through our favorite local party district: 

 Initial reports of the shooting said that on Feb. 11, 2024, the night of Super Bowl LVIIl, officers with the Kansas City Police Department were dispatched to the area of Westport Road and Broadway Boulevard on reports of a shooting.

And here more deets from today's news release . . .  

"The defendant faces a minimum 20-year sentence based on his prior convictions.

"According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to the intersection of Westport Road and Broadway Boulevard on February 11, 2024, on a reported shooting and found a victim suffering a gunshot wound. Ten minutes later, another gunshot wound victim from the scene and the defendant arrived at local hospitals for treatment for their gunshot injuries.

"Based on video obtained from the scene, a male wearing the same clothing and shoes as the defendant punches one of the victims before there is an exchange of gunfire between them. The defendant is seen on video shooting at both victims and was the primary aggressor in the physical altercation preceding the shooting."
