Will Kansas City Historic Preservation Ordinance Save Noteworthy Local Blight?!?

Kansas City prepares to consider a new demolition delay ordinance. The policy would create slower, predictable review processes for property owners applying for demolition permits. It would build in windows of time where the city and public could suggest alternate plans that instead preserve buildings of "historical, architectural, cultural or urban design" import.

"Really, this is just to allow a point for the public and the (Historic Preservation Commission) to discuss with the property owners future plans and if there's any other options," said Brad Wolf, the city's historic preservation officer, during a Dec. 4 meeting of the City Plan Commission, which unanimously supported the ordinance.
