Outcry After Kansas City Star Delivers EPIC 'Special Edition' Inflation

On Sunday The Kansas City Star hit readers with an issue that was nearly double the price of their regular print issue.

This morning our TKC hotline is PACKED with locals complaining about the EPIC price tag and apparent dead-tree media inflation that isn't reflected in any added value of the product.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY STAR READERS SHARE OUTRAGE FOR SUNDAY EDITION PRICE HIKE TO MORE THAN TEN BUCKS!!!

Before we get started on feedback . . . Let's show and prove . . .

This is the after/tax receipt single-issue price in Kansas sent by TOP ECHELON TKC READERS

Even amid Biden Administration inflation . . . That EPIC cost is still more than a month for a far more informative online subscription, a Starbucks coffee OR a couple of decent selections from any fast food value meal menu . . . Any of which would be more satisfying than paying for newsprint in 2024.

Big picture . . . The special edition seems to be related to a collection of puzzles but, like most things, people can play those online for free . . . And we're puzzled by the strategy . . . Is The Star now just a workbook for seniors to maintain their mental acuity?!?! Because this price doesn't make sense for a printed news product.

Moreover . . .

The "terrifying" cover story was related to progressive immigration rhetoric and an online story published earlier in the week . . . And . . . Actually, the only thing REALLY scary about this edition was the cost.

What TKC readers had to say . . .

"This is ridiculous. I had to ask the clerk to ring up the price again because I was certain she made a mistake. Nope. It's the Star that's making the grievous error in thinking that anybody would consistently pay this much for a something that isn't worth what they're asking. It's a money grab against people who buy the Sunday paper out of habit. The sad part is that readers are just going to stop buying and get their news elsewhere if these greedy price increases continue . . ."

We couldn't agree more . . . In a world that seems to be losing patience and sympathy for corporate "greedflation" this move seems backward for an institution charged with protecting the public trust.

As always, we ask www.TonysKansasCity.com readers for a verdict . . .

IS THE KANSAS CITY STAR "SPECIAL EDITION" WORTH MORE THAN TEN BUCKS?!?!

You decide . . .
