"The City Council on Thursday is set to take up a $65.4 million contract amendment with McCownGordon Construction to cover building a two-level, 583-space garage under the plaza being rebuilt at 12th and Central streets. The funds will flow from a $90 million amount council members approved in March, to be repaid by future bonds up to that amount, for replacing the plaza's previous 970-space garage, which closed in April after years of deterioration."

Barney Allis Plaza has undergone significant work in the months since Kansas City leaders celebrated the start of its nearly $120 million rebuild. Officials now are readying to advance funds for the largest of the project's four phases.
