Council Vote: KC Pet Project Stays Losing Animal Control Contract

A vote this afternoon provides the aftermath of public outcry and shock following a dude mauled to death by a pack of pit bulls . . .

Also, just for #TBT lets not forget that this group promised MILLIONS in donations to build a new facility but never REALLY delivered until they won their current contract that's now getting stripped away.

Here's the word:

The full city council Thursday voted unanimously to direct City Manager Brian Platt to “develop an implementation plan to insource animal control operations.”

If such a plan is approved by city council, it would strip animal control away from KC Pet Project, who won the contract almost five years ago. Under a one-year extension, KC Pet Project will run animal control until April 2025.

Kansas City Council moves to kick KC Pet Project off animal control enforcement

The decision comes after years of complaints that the nonprofit - which successfully runs the city's no-kill animal shelter - was too slow to take dangerous animals off the streets.
