Activists Share More Questions Independence Police After Mother & Baby Shot Dead

Again . . .

There's a divide amongst locals on this tragic case.

Strident supporters of law enforcement regret the tragedy but understand and back lethal police action.

Meanwhile . . .

It's unfair to claim that critics of the shooting are in the minority and questions for police persist.

Like it or not, this organization and argument continue to resonate weeks after the tragic incident:

"It has to be a teaching moment for the police. I know its hard to look at themselves and say, 'Hey, we did something wrong; lets try to fix it,'" Young said. "There has to be a different type of protocol thats learned or taught from this incident; it cant continue like this."

In a collaborative effort, KC LEAP and the victim's family are hoping to challenge the mantra "To protect and serve."

"They signed up to put themselves in harm's way to protect us," Young said. "That's what he (officer) would've been doing, is putting himself in harm's way to protect baby Destinii. It's just that simple."
