A recent prog blog report on disappearing pharmacies is great but omits an important detail: 

IN KANSAS CITY, URBAN CORE PHARMACIES SHUT DOWN THANKS TO RAMPANT CRIME!!!

From shoplifting to more dangerous armed robbery . . . It was mostly crime that pushed these businesses out and to overlook this fact of life isn't reporting the whole story.

Nevertheless . . .

"Now people in this part of Kansas City, home to some of its poorest neighborhoods, may have to catch a bus just to fill a prescription. Even if the buses are running on time and it only takes 10 minutes at the drugstore, the round trip to the nearest CVS or Walgreens would take nearly two hours."

Yes, pharmacies fill prescriptions, administer tests and give vaccines. But they also fill a vital role in the health care ecosystem, offering medical advice and care when doctors aren't available. When pharmacies shut down, that care disappears.
