The pace of killing so far this year could put the total in the 3rd or 4th spot for the highest homicide count . . . A tragic fact: All of these horrific fatality counts have occurred over the past five years.

Homicide 4000 block of Norton
On 09/11/24 around 11:45 in the evening officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of Norton Ave on a reported sound of shots call. While officers were enroute, the call was updated to a shooting.
When officers responded on scene, they located an adult male victim on the porch of a nearby residence unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers immediately began rendering medical aid until EMS personnel responded and declared the victim deceased. An additional victim, an adult female, was also located suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot injury and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
At this time, detectives are investigating what led up to shots being fired. There is not currently anyone in custody and detectives are working on identifying a person of interest.
This is being investigated as a homicide and is currently ongoing.
Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene to begin gathering any evidence and collecting witness statements.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
