Kansas City Harrison Street: Skate Or Die?!?

We recently noticed that even the most confident developer brahs are forced to back down when talking about an upcoming project.

Recently, this endeavor has been touted by local newsies . . .

Fox4: "84 homes and townhomes coming to unused space in Columbus Park"

However . . .

THE FIGHT TO SAVE HARRISON STREET DIY SKATE PARK PERSISTS AND IT JUST MIGHT BE THE MOST IMPORTANT STRUGGLE IN KANSAS CITY!!!

At least for those of us dedicated to keeping this town weird and not like every other Midwestern coffee shop on your mom's Instagram.

Accordingly and apropos for #TBT . . . Here's a reminder of locals building something better than overpriced real estate or some silly stadium near downtown . . . Check-it:

"Through the overwhelming positive reactions, Kansas City Public Works allowed Harrison Street DIY to continue building a skatepark, while also strengthening the community that surrounds it. It has now been over 9 years since the start of the project, and has transformed the area into one of the most well loved skatepark spaces in the entire region. There are now new plans in place to develop the area and Harrison Street DIY is in danger of not surviving the new era of development in the historic neighborhood of Columbus Park."
