Actually . . .
It's just a leftover ideas from the 90s that sounds great but never really earns anything but junk weapons from people who want to express solitary and deny about 400 MILLION guns in the US.
As always, there's the more hopeful perspective from the top local writer on faith & morals . . .
The "Guns to Gardens Safe Surrender" event that day is rooted in a prophecy found in the book of Isaiah (2:4) about an imagined time when people "shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks."
So, yes, this is one small effort to address the catastrophic plague of guns that are murdering our fellow citizens and wounding the heart and soul of our community. But it's also rooted in the Central Presbyterian Church approach to ministry, which Rev. Jenny Wells says has a lot to do with feeding people physically and spiritually, which is why Central has both a sanctuary and a garden.
