Today tensions ran hot at the courthouse as Exec Frank White threatened massive county layoffs if his tax levy mandate wasn't passed.
In the end, the Exec proved successful but it wasn't pretty.
A message the hot mess during the day that might or might not have made it on camera . . .
"We walked out threatened to defund the county unless we rollback our levy."
That was a bold gesture but it turns out the effort to block the Exec didn't last long . . .
Aftermath . . .
The first vote failed 4-1 on Monday. Just one shy of what was needed for the levy to pass.
That briefly opened up uncertainty into how the county was going to be able to collect taxes, its primary source of revenue.
Shortly after, Jackson County Legislator Vanessa Huskey changed her vote, giving it enough to pass.
And so . . .
For now there's a crisis averted but the drama continues as MILLIONS WORTH OF COVID MONEY still hasn't been designated and the Courthouse really does risk losing it all.
