In a letter sent to parents, Lee’s Summit School District Superintendent Dr. David Buck confirmed that threats toward East Trails Middle School were posted on TikTok Monday night. Thanks to the quick work of the Lee’s Summit Police Department and the FBI, he continued, the student involved was “taken into police custody and is not in school today.”

The Lee’s Summit Police Department confirmed the post contained a detailed threat toward the school igniting an all-night investigation to locate the student and their family before taking the student into custody.

Although the specific threats the student made were not specified, Buck emphasized that making threats “even as a joke” will be taken seriously with “legal and disciplinary consequences.”
