KC Defender Activists Denounce Impending Pardon: 'License To Kill'

For edification and a preview of election season . . . We share this quote from local activists and the strongest reaction we've seen to word of a pardon.

Like it or not, it's important to understand the local level of discourse and rhetoric that surrounds this impending decision  . . . Check-it:

"(Guv) Parson’s comments, made during a far-right extremist radio show hosted by Pete Mundo, reveal a blatant disregard for justice and a full-throated support for brutal, anti-Black police violence.

"Governor Parson, a former Polk County sheriff, expressed his disapproval of DeValkenaere’s incarceration, stating, “I don’t like where he’s at,” and further hinted that a decision regarding DeValkenaere’s sentence is imminent. This marks the most explicit support Parson has shown for DeValkenaere since the officer’s conviction, signaling a likely intervention after the November election to avoid political backlash . . . The implications of Parson’s potential decision cannot be overstated. Should he choose to pardon DeValkenaere, it would not only undermine the rule of law but also serve as a “license to kill” for other racist cops who will know they can kill Black people with impunity. This is not only a fight for justice for Cameron Lamb—this is a fight for life of Black people all across the state . . . We must stand united against this horrifying miscarriage of justice."
