Homicide Gregory and Prospect
This morning just before 2AM, officers were in the area of 70th and Prospect when they heard several sounds of shots nearby.
Officers were contacted by an adult male victim who stated he had been shot. Officers called EMS who responded and transported the victim to an area hospital. An additional shooting victim was located a short distance away who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and unresponsive. EMS transported the victim to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently declared deceased. Additional updates were relayed to officers that multiple adult victims were transported to several area hospitals suffering from gunshot trauma.
Preliminary information is believed officers were patrolling the area where there was a large gathering of people outside on Prospect Ave. between 70th and Gregory Blvd. that broke into an outside disturbance. The disturbance escalated and erupted in gunfire between several individuals who quickly left the area.
This is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time. We do not currently have anyone in custody.
Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements.
The area between E 70th and Gregory Blvd. on Prospect Ave. will remain closed to traffic until the scene has been processed and cleared.
If anyone was in or around the area at this time and saw or heard anything they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS there is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
