Kansas City 2024 Homicide #105: Deadly Gunfire Near 71 Highway

Police are still searching for the suspect as the investigation continues amid an exceptionally bloody week in KCMO.

Homicide 22nd and 71 Highway

Tonight at around 7:51 PM patrol officers were dispatched to the area of 22nd and 71 highway on a reported shooting.

As officers arrived they were directed to a wooded area directly to the east of 71 highway. There they located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the victim deceased on scene.

This is being investigated as a homicide. Detectives are canvassing the area to locate witnesses, physical evidence, or any surveillance footage to help determine what led up to the victim being shot.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
