Kansas City 2024 Homicide #101: Victim Shot Dead Inside Car Early Sunday Morning

The trend we're watching unfold . . .

There have been five homicides so far this week as locals chip away at homicide reduction progress touted earlier in the year.

Again . . . Reasonable people hope & pray for a solution to so much local killing.

Nevertheless . . . We can't afford to ignore the reality that we don't know exactly why the killing paused for a few weeks earlier in 2024.

In the meantime . . . Here is the first report on deadly violence for Sunday . . .

Homicide 8200 blk of Holmes

This morning at around 1:47 AM patrol officers were dispatched to the 8200 blk of Kenwood on a reported sound of shots.

As officers arrived in the area they began canvassing looking for possible victims or a crime scene.  In the 8200 blk of Holmes officers located an adult male victim inside of a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene.

This is being investigated as a homicide.  Detectives are canvassing for witnesses and any additional leads about what led up to the shooting. Crime scene investigators will continue to process the scene to locate any physical evidence.

If anyone has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
