From our vantage this debate has more to do with ongoing political feuding than any policy stance.
However . . . Insiders offer an even more nuanced perspective . . . Here's a quick peek behind the scenes:
"For those of us who know how this kind of legislation really works. It's really a rejection of the county counselor's office . . . That's where all legislation has to pass through before going for an open vote. If the ordinance REALLY didn't pass legal muster then the time to deal with that is BEFORE it comes up for a vote. The whole thing just turned into a grudge match and the Executive calling out his Legislature in public is just another sign of how dysfunctional politics has become at the Courthouse."

The discussion of the controversial policy continues next week . . .
"In light of the position of County Executives on ordinance 5865, Jackson County, Missouri, Legislator Manuel Abarca IV says he has invited the public to a Health and Environment Committee meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
"Earlier in the week, County Executive Frank White Jr. publicly dissented from the ordinance that would have restricted firearm possession for those between 18 and 21. The ordinance, which was introduced by Abarca, was inspired by the fatal mass shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs rally in February."
