Former KCPD Pleads NOT GUILTY After Deadly Walmart Shooting

More deets on a spate of tragic gunfire amid an apparent altercation that garnered headlines throughout the region this week . . .

Taquiza Johnson is accused of shooting and killing a man in a Walmart parking lot Wednesday afternoon.

Johnson, 47, served with KCPD from 2003 to 2014, according to a spokesperson with the police department. He’s accused of killing 71-year-old Ronald Barnett.

The Missouri Department of Public Service said Johnson’s peace officer license, which is required to work as a police officer, is no longer active. The department said since Johnson allowed his license to expire he has not worked as a police officer in Missouri for at least five years.
