Kansas City 2024 Homicide #81: More Deadly Gunfire On Prospect

So far this week this is the SECOND DEADLY SHOOTING ON PROSPECT THIS WEEK as the murder count remains lower than last year but still far ahead of most cities this same size. 

Here is the first report . . . 

Homicide 9th and Prospect

This evening at around 7:30 PM officers were dispatched to a shooting at 9th and Prospect. Upon arrival they discovered a crime scene just to the east at 9th and Chestnut.

They located an adult male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers began performing life saving measures and ordered EMS to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

This is being investigated as a homicide. Patrol officers were able to locate several witnesses on scene and detectives are interviewing them to determine what led up to the incident.  Crime scene investigators are processing the scene for physical evidence and detectives will continue to canvass the area for anyone with information.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

Homicide investigation opens near Kansas City's Independence Plaza

An investigation has been opened after a deceased individual was found near Kansas City's Independence Plaza.

KCPD investigate homicide at 9th and Prospect Avenue

One man was found dead with gunshot wounds.
