Will New Owners Save Country Club Plaza?!?

Kansas City newsies are offering a lot of hype and bold statements.

However . . .

NOTICE VERY LITTLE PRACTICAL INFO ABOUT CRIME & CROWD CONTROL!!!

Here's what's worse . . .

Silly boomers are actually hoping this project fails so that life hiding under their bed seems more justified & dignified.

Fact is . . .

Retail is a tough sell under any circumstances.

Also . . .

It's not unattended "youths" that ruined the Plaza. We learned this lesson long ago when the most dramatic decline in the district came by way of Mayor Q leading a mob of "mostly peaceful" protesters amid BLM riots that looted shops burned cars and chased customers away for years at a time.

What's worse is that so many out of touch suburbanites can't tell the difference between Black & Latino youngsters ages 13-35. It's always sort of embarrassing to see curfews are still argued as a solution despite years of the policy failing to work.

But enough of TKC skepticism . . . Check the mainstream bright side and share your plan to fix a district that survived for 100 years until campaign politics nearly killed it:

The Kansas City Country Club Plaza District Council confirmed Tuesday that Dallas-based firm Highland Park Village Partners plans to finalize its purchase of the Plaza by Friday, June 28.

In a recent update from the Plaza District Council, President Kate Marshall said the council stands ready to work with new ownership to ensure a better future for the Plaza.

From another report:

Here are a few things the Plaza might expect under the new owners:

- More local retailers and restaurants.

- An early focus on the development of a long-vacant lot at the west edge of the Plaza. The site was previously home to two restaurant spaces, a bank and a movie theater. They were demolished in 2019 to make way for a new 122,000-square-foot Nordstrom department store. But that deal later fell through when Nordstrom decided not to relocate from Oak Park Mall in Overland Park.

-New landscaping, signage, beautification projects.

- Additional housing development. With more residents, the Plaza could bring back a grocery store and other services.

- New facades for some buildings.
