As a result of that internal investigation, authorities have suspended two high-ranking officials and an armorer from the Leavenworth VA after Officer Jerel McGeachy Sr. took a gun from the Eastern Kansas VA Health System's armory before using it to shoot and kill his wife, Domonique McGeachy, 38, and young son, Jerel McGeachy Jr., 12. on April 1, 2024, despite his access to the firearm being revoked.
