The track record for big ticket economic development in Kansas is, actually, rather abysmal.

And now . . . 

The crowning achievement could be giving away the store to Chiefs & Royals whilst population numbers continue to plummet and demographics don't favor a tax surplus for very long.

Even worse . . .

If the Royals & Chiefs are playing Kansas for suckers on this deal . . . Kansas economic development leaders will have a hard time pitching more serious projects.

Nevertheless . . .

There are already a myriad of problems emerging with this "scoop & score" effort that ALSO looks so much like a propaganda campaign from Hunt family that it might as well be dating Travis Kelce.

After hours of heated deliberations, lawmakers voted overwhelmingly to create special tax incentives for major sports teams to build stadiums in Kansas. The bill will go to Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly’s desk.

While the governor previously said she wasn’t trying to recruit the Chiefs, she praised the plan in a statement, calling it a bipartisan initiative to drive economic growth.

"Kansas now has the opportunity to become a professional sports powerhouse with the Chiefs and Royals potentially joining Sporting KC as major league attractions," Kelly said.
