Kansas City 2024 Homicide #71: Deadly Gunfire Near Mayor Q

Midtown Kansas City is one of the most populous areas near Kansas City and other news outlets have noted the Mayor Q is now a denizen of this expansive community -- So, don't get your panties in a bunch, WE'RE NOT DOXXING ANYBODY, merely reporting that KC's worsening homicide count is cause for concern for EVERYONE who resides in this cowtown up to and including the top city hall boss. 

Actually, this deadly altercation was less than a five blocks from Mayor Q but, in reality and thankfully, a safe distance far away.

Additionally and probably more importantly . . . 

This is the second KCMO homicide in 24 hours.

Here are the basics of the investigation and more deets: 

Homicide 1000 blk of W 38th

This afternoon around 2:30 PM officers were dispatched to the 1000 blk of W. 38th street on a reported sound of shots. While en route the call was upgraded to a shooting.

Upon arrival officers were directed to an apartment building.  Upon entering the building they located an adult male victim in a common access stairwell. The victim was suffering from apparent gun shot wounds. Officers immediately started performing life saving measures and ordered EMS. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics.

Detectives and crime scene personnel are gathering evidence, talking to witnesses, and looking for surveillance footage to determine what led up to the incident.

The incident occurred in a heavily populated neighborhood, if anyone has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
