Kansas City 2024 Homicides #58 & #59: Deadly Gunfire Overnight

June 2024 starts with a spate of gunfire overnight that leaves two dead.

Last year at this date on the calendar there were already 76 homicides.

However, we notice an uptick in deadly local violence as KCMO moves into Summer.

Here are two separate reports along with news story follow-up . . .

Homicide 600 block of E 110th Ter

This evening just before 11:30PM, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of E 110th Ter on a reported sounds of shots. The call was updated to a shooting while in route to the scene.

When officers arrived, they were summoned to a nearby residence where an adult male was located in the front yard unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began rendering medical aid until EMS responded and transported the victim to an area hospital. The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The preliminary investigation revealed the incident occurred over an argument.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements.

There is not currently anyone in custody. This is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

Homicide 50th and Prospect Ave

This evening just after 4AM, officers were dispatched to 50th and Prospect Ave on a reported EMS call for a party down in the street.

When officers arrived, they observed an adult male laying in the street unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Responding officers immediately began rendering medical aid until EMS responded and confirmed the party deceased.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are currently unknown and no one is in custody.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements.

This is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.
