Kansas City Playlist: Inside 38th Brookside Art Annual 2024

TKC briefly emerged from the basement this evening for a quick artsy jaunt and a traditional cowtown celebration of creativity and middle-class day drinking or vice versa.

It has been a minute since we shared pix so here are more than a few . . .

Don't know how much detail we captured here but this live drawing was photo-realistic, impressive and apropos given that pink cowboys pretty much sum up American culture right now.

This piece stood out to us if only because it's nice when artists do more with less . . .

Fun moment of the evening . . . This sculpture booth earned more than a few gawkers and an impressive number of sales . . . Snapped this pic as a very excited & nice lady was quick to grab one of the more affordable items for her home office.

A local fave and glimpse of cowtown culture . . . We appreciate this Brookside event because they always include local biz & more than a few home grown artists.

Sign that TKC is getting a bit older . . . This was probably our favorite piece that could only be accomplished by a skilled craftsman and PROBABLY not AI or mass manufacturing . . .

This campy display set the mood for an evening filled with a Brookside ladies drinking VERY OVERPRICED BOOZE and cackling at full blast.

As the sun went down, the crowd was getting a little rowdy and some lady/retired hockey player hip checked TKC whilst we attempted to navigate the crowd . . . Which was my signal to pack it up.

A closer glimpse at American death culture and/or the struggle against it . . .

The final impressive display that we noticed on our way out . . . This booth featured a ton of intricately designed dioramas, some of which were aglow and in motion.

There's still time to check out the art fair this weekend. Tonight the neighborhood artsy exhibit inspires our www.TonysKansasCity.com playlist . . .

This tune seemed kinda artsy and is as good of a place to start as any given that Gotye didn't want to be famous and has spent most of his career regretting his biggest musical hit.

"Picasso Baby" from Jay-Z usually makes our more creative lists . . . It's a solid song from a hip-hop legend who is now a multimillionaire, funds social justice movements and collects fine art.

David Bowie's tribute to Andy Warhol is kind of ironic because the singer was WAY MORE TALENTED and only slightly less influential than the visual artist.

Our second favorite video from the Red Hot Chili Peppers is inspired by "one minute" modern art sculptures . . .

Finally, Don McLean's Vincent (Starry Starry Night 1972) is a nice tune and the dude is still singing it at (some) of those Van Gogh exhibits around the world. Here's a more relaxing version for late night & early morning TKC readers . . .

As always thanks for reading and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
