Kansas City Councilman Denounces 'Genocide' In Gaza After Resolution FAIL

One of the most progressive members of council shares his perspective on this week's local debate over international diplomacy . . .

Two takeaways . . .

- His use of the term "genocide" is problematic and might be described as hateful by many supporters of Israel.

- He claims a security threat at city hall . . . However, most report that Mayor Q's objection ultimately killed the resolution.

Here's the quote and link for more context . . .

"Today Kansas City’s Council aimed to recognize the distinguished service of the Palestinian American Medical Association (PAMA) for their tireless efforts to provide medical aid to Palestinians impacted by the ongoing onslaught in Gaza and beyond. 🧵

"Due to anti-Muslim & anti-Palestinian racism, at PAMA’s request & for their safety, CM Bunch rescinded the special action & the resolution to call for an immediate ceasefire, release of all hostages, release of humanitarian aid, & restoration of water and electricity services.

"Here in Kansas City, the bombs being dropped on innocent people are felt deeply by our community. Funded with US tax dollars, armed with US munitions, and empowered by US policies, the bombing of children and the enabled famine of the Palestinian people are felt here, too.

"Antisemitism and Islamophobia are brothers, and the ongoing push to use accusations of antisemitism as a muzzle to silence the calls to end the siege and indiscriminate bombardment of the Palestinian people only strengthens this vile brotherhood of hate.

"We cannot allow ourselves to 'all sides' a genocide; we must stand together to speak truth to power. Hate & bigotry breed eternal under the cover of darkness & ignorance- truth is the light & knowledge that shines to disarm those who would otherwise seek to keep our eyes shut.

"While I am saddened we were not able to speak these truths inside Council Chambers today, I remain undaunted and resolute in our aim for truth and liberation for and of all people."
