Kansas City 2024 Homicide #53: Deadly Gunfire Amid Massive Brawl

Earlier today a neighborhood fight resulted in deadly gunfire and the latest addition to the rising homicide count.

Here's the trend that most local news outlets don't have time to track . . .

Again . . .

Last week local boosters were touting a 25% drop in homicides year-to-date.

However . . .

A week of exceptionally nice weather has boosted the quotient of local killing.

Last year, when KC achieved it's deadliest homicide count in recorded history, homicides totaled 60 at this point on the calendar. 

And so . . . 

Today's deadly spate of gunfire narrows this year's decline in homicides to only around 11.6% so far.

Homicide 3400 block of Wyoming

This afternoon at about 1:50 PM officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Wyoming on a recovered stolen auto. The call was later upgraded to a shooting.

Upon arrival officers discovered an adult male victim suffering from apparent gun shot wounds. They attempted to render aid and ordered an ambulance. EMS pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

This is being investigated as a homicide. There was an altercation that involved multiple individuals. Several individuals were involved in firing shots which led to the victim being struck.  Three subjects of interest were taken into custody on scene pending further investigation.

Detectives and crime scene investigators are continuing to talk to witnesses and process the scene for physical evidence in order to determine what led up to the incident.
