Student Plan Could Save The Plaza AND Kansas City Royals

A nice note sent our way offers a more hopeful perspective than anything that a Gen-Xer is capable of devising.

And so . . .

BE NICE TKC D-BAGS!!! KICK-ASS KANSAS CITY STUDENT & EAGLE SCOUT STEVE SENT US THIS REPORT THAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR THINKING CREATIVELY!!!

Here's a glimpse at his designs . . .

"I love KC and it's character/culture. The Royals are a big part of that. The CC Plaza is an even BIGGER part of that. If we don't do something major, both will soon be gone.

"I think the downtown stadium vote failed because of opposition to the location and Sherman and certainly was not a rejection of our beloved Chiefs. It was just a dumb idea. I am a Kauffman Eagle Scout and attended several World Series games as his guest and I love his legacy. But I am a realist. Something needs to happen quickly or KC will look nothing like the City we love.

"Instead of a downtown stadium, I seriously propose a Plaza location, such as Theis Park (Directly south of the Nelson). Walking distance from the Plaza. Emanuel Cleaver on the North, ML King on the South and the Kauffman Memorial Garden on the East side. The site highlights our most famous area of the City. It takes full advantage of our toy train to nowhere (when the Plaza is dead) and would breathe life into The Plaza, sparing it from pawn shops and tattoo parlors. Hotels and restaurants are already there as is substantial parking and even more parking with the option to park and ride the train to the stadium. It would be a fabulous venue for non-baseball events as well.

"Alternatively and really radical, would be to tear down the east half of the Plaza to save the rest. Personally, I like this maybe better. Tear out Broadway to Main and drop the stadium where the tennis courts are. Train literally goes by the front door. Design it with the Spanish architecture to fit the area.

"I would love to "Save the K", but the Royals are a more important legacy to Mr K than the stadium. And I can't imagine KC without the CC Plaza. Obviously, there is a lot more to this, but that's for others to work out. With the Hunt interest in the Plaza, this would seem to be a win/win for them."
